Today was the first free day I have had in months. I took advantage of it, and went to see the movie "Fireproof". I had been wanting to see this movie since it was released, but had not had spare moment. It was a good movie, but had an amazing message. Basically, it is a story about a married couple that are dealing with the reality of divorce, and "The Love Dare".
It has me thinking about true love- no, not the romantic type that everyone equates with that phrase, but the love we have only by having a servant's heart. Many of the themes in the movie resonated with me even though I am not married nor is marriage in my immediate future. It has made me examine relationships with family and friends.
I've been learning a lot about love lately....
Love is the patience of a woman taking care of her husband who has Parkinson's and dementia.
Love is in the maturity of a son and the love and concern he has for his family.
Love is in the tears of a college girl praying fervently for her friend.
Love is a hug between two college students struggling with the same class.
Love is in the respect between two people with different views.
Love is long overdue forgiveness.
Love is in the little every day actions.
I have regrets. I have not loved fully and fervently, with a servant's heart. However, I also have hope. I'm challenging myself to show love in whatever situation, through whatever response I might get.
The following song by Warren Barfield sums it up:
Love is not a place
to come and go as we please
It's a house we enter in
then commit to never leave
So lock the door behind you
Throw away the key
Work it out together
Let it bring us to our knees
Love is a shelter
in a raging storm
Love is peace
in the middle of a war
And if we try to leave;
May God send angels to guard the door
No, Love is not a fight
but its something worth fighting for
To some love is a word
that they can fall into.
But when they're falling out
keeping that word is hard to do
Love is a shelter
in a raging storm
Love is peace
in the middle of a war
And if we try to leave;
May God send angels to guard the door
No, Love is not a fight
but its something worth fighting for
Love will come to save us
If we'll only call
He will ask nothing from us
but demand we give our all
Love is a shelter
in a raging storm
Love is peace
in the middle of a war
And if we try to leave;
May God send angels to guard the door
No, Love is not a fight
but its something worth fighting for.
Cause I Will Fight For You
Would You Fight For Me
It's Worth Fighting For.
