This summer we are sitting a fish. While out in the living room today, I began to think about the life of a fish, specifically this fish known as Beta. I began to think about how sad a fish must be. It has no contact whatsoever with human or animal; it cannot even be petted and has never felt human touch, or any touch other than, possibly, that of another fish. It relies on its owner to feed it, to allow it to survive.
People can easily become like fish. We cut ourselves off from the rest of the world, putting ourselves in a fish tank or a box, and depending on others to allow us survival. We complain, get discouraged, and stay in our fish tank. Like that of a fish, we depend on others for our own happiness. Sometimes we depend on other people to "feed" us our happiness.
Complaining about certain things and staying in our fish tank will get us nowhere. If one wants to find a church, yet stays at home every Sunday and never go visiting churches because one is afraid , how is one to find a church? If you want to find a date, yet stay at home when there are opportunities to get out and socialize, how are you going to find a date, unless one is going to date the Fed-Ex man?
Don't be a fish and stay in a fish tank. God gives us free will. He allows us to be self sustaining. We need others for companionship, friendship, fellowship, and worship. Yet we need to take charge and take control of our own decisions, with God's help. Don't depend on others for our own happiness.
Take a stand today.
